How to Change Marketing Contact Status in HubSpot

Managing contact status in HubSpot is crucial for targeting the right audience with your marketing efforts. Whether you need to set a contact as a marketing contact or change their status to non-marketing, HubSpot provides several methods to do so. Changing to Marketing Contact Status

To set a contact as a marketing contact in HubSpot, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Contacts > Contacts in your HubSpot account.
  2. To create a new contact as a marketing contact, click Create contact, fill in the contact's properties, and select the Set this contact as a marketing contact checkbox before clicking Create.
  3. To update existing contacts to marketing, select the checkboxes next to the contacts you wish to change. Then, click the More dropdown menu and select Set as marketing contacts. Enter the number of contacts and confirm by clicking Set [x] contacts.
  4. For bulk changes, prepare an import file with the contacts' email addresses or Record ID values. During the import process, select the Set these contacts as marketing contacts checkbox and confirm the number of contacts to set as marketing.

Additionally, you can automate the process for contacts who submit forms or through workflows in Professional or Enterprise accounts. For forms, the setting is enabled by default, but can be adjusted individually. Workflows allow for setting marketing contact status based on specific criteria.

Changing to Non-Marketing Contact Status

To change a contact's status to non-marketing, you have several options:

  1. From the Contacts > Contacts page, select the contacts you wish to change, then choose Set as non-marketing contacts from the More dropdown menu. Confirm your selection in the dialog box.
  2. Use the Usage & Limits page for a more guided process. Navigate to Account & Billing > Usage & Limits, then click Manage marketing contacts. Follow the steps to select contacts for non-marketing status, reviewing and updating your selections.
  3. In Professional or Enterprise accounts, utilize workflows to automatically set contacts as non-marketing based on specific triggers. Add the Set marketing contact status action in your workflow and select Set as non-marketing.

Remember, changing a contact to non-marketing status before the next update date will take effect after that date, ensuring accurate billing and contact management.
